Our IRC chat room is now open. Visitors are welcome to make use of the rooms both during and/or after market hours for the purposes of communicating with other traders around the world. There are two ways to connect to the IRC chat server:
Method #1 - IRC Java applet via your web browser If you have never used IRC chat before, that's okay. We provide an easy to use IRC Java Applet, which can be used to log into the IRC chat server from your web browser. Simply visit the following link to load the applet (make sure Java is enabled in your browser of course): http://www.daytrader.com/irc/ From this page, you can select a nick name for the chat room and then click the connect button. Once connected, use the channels tab to join any of the currently available channels. If the room(s) are active, you should be able to chat right away with other people. If not, feel free to stick around a bit and see if others join in (be patient, the site is new after all :-) Method #2 - Using your own IRC software You can also connect to the IRC server using any number of commonly available IRC software programs (generally called IRC clients). These are programs available over the Internet, which you download and install on your PC or Mac. Some are free, while others are shareware and require paid registration if you continue using them. Visit Google.com and search "IRC client" or "IRC programs" to locate software that is currently available. One very popular program is called mIRC and has been used on Windows for many years, although it is no longer free. Add the word "Free" to your Google search and you should be able to find plenty of free IRC clients. One free client that looks pretty decent is called Xchat. There is also a Mac version called X-Chat Aqua which works on the Mac OS X operating system. Whatever program you use, connecting to the IRC server is easy. Simply configure your software to use the following settings: SERVER = irc.daytrader.com PORT = 6666 Once connected, you can use the /list command to see which channels are open and/or use the /join #channel command to join. #daytrader is the main channel during market hours. When you connect to the server, the welcome screen will provide further instructions on using IRC. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us and/or ask for help on the forums. Enjoy!! |

Just a quick note about the IRC chatroom...
During the day, people are stopping by, but then leaving. Since the room (and site) are new, please feel free to keep your chat window open to the IRC room during the day. This will allow members to chat as people show up. If everyone just stops by for a few seconds at a time, it will be difficult to chat :-) Also, don't forget to use the log function. Just send a private message to the "log" bot in the channel. Double click "log" and type "help" for further information. As we promote the site, we should see additional members making use of the IRC chat room. For now, feel free to hang out and make use of the room as you trade during the day. Just click "IRC chat" on the menu bar above. :-) Ray |

The market is slow these days. Our IRC chat is new, but I leave it up for anyone who wants to use it. It has nice features (such as a log) that other chat rooms don't have. Hopefully in the future people will start to make use of it. The ore people who hang out there the better. We do have some people who drop in from time to time, but that doesn't really help. I think what we need is a core group of people who make the room interesting and hang out all day. When I get back to trading more regularly, I am usually in the room more. In the meantime, feel free to make use of the IRC channel :-) Ray |

Maybe I'm just a dumb old Day Trader, but I really can't figure out how to use the chat room. The array of commands, combined with a million other things on my mind, just don't seem to mesh with 'How To'.
I am used to just typing and press Enter. Anyway, that's my two bits worth. Sorry I can't figure it out. |

Cannot enter chat room. I have a new laptop. Why is this this chatroom so hard to enter? It seems like you need to be a programmer. I have tried and tried. Other chatrooms you press enter and you are in. Please make the website simple.
